47th Annual Meeting
2008 Northmen - August 5, 6 & 7 _______________________________________________________________________
It’s A Campout
If this should be your first time at the Northmen you need to be aware of some things needed for camping. This is just a general list. If you have other questions please feel free to contact us. You will need shelter, it can get cool and it does rain. Your camping outfit needs to be complete with a shovel, axe, hammer, lights, supplies for your food and your needs for preparing and serving such. You might want some basic first aid items. Be sure you have some rope, a cooler, chairs, table and whatever you use for sleeping. You need containers to get and hold water. We make wood, ice, milk, bread and water available at our cost. No wood is to be brought into the county. This is an absolute and could cost you a stiff fine if you bring some. You might need bug dope and be sure to have warm jackets and rain gear. No dress up attire is needed. You might want a swim suit one day and your long johns the next. Remember no electricity is available for camping.
Some Simple Rules
We ask for no smoking. This is due to fire hazard as well as your health. No fire works are needed and guns are unnecessary. No green vegetation is to be cut. We know you all want to be "woodsmen" but knives and axes should be used only for camp purposes. Camp sights are first come first served. We ask that there be no ladies in camp from noon Tuesday until Friday morning. Bikes, ORVS and such are to be used with great caution. Boys are to be in all sessions during the day. We leave the responsibility for this up to the camp leaders. No camping within one hundred (100') of the creek. Fire pits for all fires and leave your campsite as you found it. Never leave a fire unattended.
Directions
See the Camp Info Page
There is a landing strip at Moorestown. We will make arrangements to pick you up if you want to fly in. The nearest major airport is Traverse City.
For Your Information
When coming into camp remember you will be at least 12 miles from the nearest gas station. You may want to fill up before entering the woods.
Emergency messages should be directed to the Church of Christ at Kalkaska 231 258 9441. Or the county sheriff at 231 258 8686.
If you bring boys not your own we hold you responsible for their behavior as well as your own boys. Boys must be in all sessions and we expect them to be with you in the big tent at night.
Our little display tent is open to anyone but we reserve the right to limit or remove displays we might think in- appropriate. If you display please remember that the cost of the tent is covered by your donations.
Boys Meetings
Junior boys will have their own sessions Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and afternoon. In the evening they will meet with the men in the Big Tent. Jr. boys will have learning sessions in the morning and recreation in the afternoon. Those leading their morning sessions will use topics from the men's list of messages. Various church groups camping at the Northmen will lead the Junior sessions. Wednesday afternoon will be directed recreation and Thursday afternoon will be a bike rodeo.
If your group would be interested in leading a Junior session please get in touch with us.
Teen boys will have the same daily schedule. Their morning sessions will feature music and speakers. The topics will be from the men's list. Particular studies will include Growing up to Be a Man and Dealing with Pornography. Their canoe trip will be Thursday afternoon. Cost of that trip is around $20 and a signed permission slip is required. Ray Peasley will be in charge of the music and lead all sessions.
Northmen Thailand
Last year's Northmen in Thailand saw about 80 in attendance. There were 10 immersions and a great spirit at the gathering. Those who traveled spent about two weeks after the Northmen meeting in working at the hostel or evangelizing in outlying villages. Come this December we will travel again to share in that meeting. Anyone interested in traveling with us needs to contact Mike before the August meeting. We are encouraging the men of Thailand to take full responsibility for the meeting and its messages. As we go a couple of Americans may speak but we encourage them to carry the main load. Our involvement in this work in Thailand now includes acting as forwarding agent for the Sinlee's. We would gladly come and present the work to your congregation if you so desire. At present we are working on the school for the hostel kids. Please be praying about our property sale so we can begin building soon. Your funds sent for the Northmen meeting are used only for that meeting. Funds sent for Northmen Ministries are used to help cover all stateside costs for the Thailand work. Any person traveling to the Northmen meeting in Thailand covers their own expenses Donation are given to use in ministering while there.

We Will Continue Until…
At times our bones get weary and we wonder about carrying on with this meeting. Our intention, as announced is to try to reach 50 years. It all depends on the land use, our health and your attendance and covering of cost. We understand some are disturbed by discussion of ceasing the meeting but that will come. Para church things are never "absolute" or unending. Their purpose comes and it goes. Instruction in the word and rich fellowship is always needed but it comes in differing ways and times as meetings like the Northmen have shown. When the time comes we want to see the Northmen conclude with its solid programs still in place. Let it stand for what it stood for and march on in family camps which are the meeting places of today. Our understanding of the cost of land purchase and development to have a meeting like this are prohibitive with today's codes in Michigan. We have been blessed for what we have and yet will have. When the time comes we will cease to "meet in the woods" but press on to the real meeting in the "new heaven and new earth."
